Available instruments for financing energy efficiency projects presented by hamag-bicro and the EBRD

Zagreb, July 9, 2014 - Croatian Agency for SMEs, innovation and investment (HAMAG-BICRO) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) hosted an event to promote financial instruments available for funding energy efficiency projects. The event gathered over 50 representatives from financial and non-financial institutions, consultants and entrepreneurs , including clients of the "Transfer of Knowledge and best practices of the EBRD Business Advisory Services to HAMAG-BICRO" project, a project financed by the EBRD and the Croatian Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Crafts to provide advisory services, promote best practices and share of know-how in the field of energy efficiency.

During the conference, the EBRD has presented the Western Balkans Sustainable Energy Financing Facility (WeBSEFF), developed to support investments in the energy efficiency and renewables. WeBSEFF consultant Vedrana Perkovic-Hadl pointed out: "A key feature of this facility are financial incentives. Incentives for public sector amounts to 5-10%, and those for the private sector, to 10-15%. Incentives are calculated as a percentage of the loan amount. More efficient use of energy in the private sector reduces corporate costs and increases competitiveness of enterprises, expands the scope of production, improves quality standards and provides the ability to replace old equipment. Public sector can save on transportation costs, utilities, waste management, and heating and cooling in public buildings."
